Abstract

1427743 Ignition devices BICOSA-SOC DE RECHERCHES 22 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972 12 April 1972 7 July 1972 11 Dec 1972] Divided out of 1427741 42838/75 Heading F1B An electronic ignition device for igniting gas fuel, for example in a cigarette lighter, comprises a D.C. voltage source 4, voltage raising means connected to the source and to a spark gap 1, the voltage raising means including oscillator means connected to the source and operative for converting the D.C. voltage of the source into an oscillating voltage, switch means 5 having an activated and an unactivated condition, the switch means being operative upon activation for initiating operation of the oscillator means to cause the voltage raising means to generate a spark voltage across the gap and terminating means operative when the switch means remains in the activated condition for automatically terminating operation of the oscillator means upon elapse of a predetermined time interval following the initiation of operation of the oscillator means, the terminating means comprising pulse generating means 210 operative for generating a pulse upon elapse of a predetermined time interval and bistable means 200. The bi-stable means 200 is operative when in a first state for permitting operation of the oscillator means and operative when in a second state for preventing operation of the oscillator means. Means are provided which connect the switch means to the bi-stable means 200 for causing the bi-stable means to undergo a transition to the first state in response to transition of the switch means from the unactivated to the activated condition and means 201 connects the pulse generating means to the bi-stable means for causing the bi-stable means to undergo a transition to the second state in response to receipt of the pulse and to remain in the second state until such time as transition of the switch means from the unactivated to the activated condition again occurs. The pulse generating means comprises means 212 for generating a pulse train and frequency divider means 213 having an input connected to receive the pulse train and having an output 211 constituting the output of the pulse generating means. In a modification, (not shown), the bi-stable means comprises a thyristor which receives a pulse from the discharge circuit of capacitor 12. A gas lighter incorporating the electronic ignition device is described. The parent Specification 1427741 and the Divisional Specification 1427742 are referred to.
