Abstract

1427712 Trickle filters MASS TRANSFER Ltd 20 Feb 1973 [28 Feb 1972] 9164/72 Addition to 1385672 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] Fluid/fluid contact apparatus comprises a packed bed and means for introducing fluids into the bed for contact therein, wherein at least part of the bed is formed of tower packing elements each comprised of an open-ended tubular member having a diameter (defined) greater than its width (defined) in which the diameter at one end of the tubular member is greater than that of the other end thereof and which element has a plurality of ribs extending radially from the centre of the member to the side wall thereof, the overall length of the member being less than its diameter (defined). The walls 1 may be straight or curved away from the centre of the member, the ribs 2 being diametric and planar with the planes being parallel to the longitudinal axis of the member. The elements may alternatively have sets of ribs 2a, 2b (Fig. 4) arranged at different levels along the longitudinal axis of the elements, apertures 4 in the member wall 1, concentric supplementary rings 3 and an external strengthening rib on the outer surface of the member wall.
