Abstract

1427272 Non-woven fabric WIGGINS TEAPE LTD 23 Dec 1974 [10 Jan 1974] 01213/74 Heading D2B A method of making a heavy non-woven fabric e.g. paper comprises forming and with the use of a surfactant foaming a cellulosic and/or mineral fibre dispersion having a high fibre consistency, depositing the foamed dispersion on a foraminous support, and draining the dispersion to form a web. The fibre consistency for cellulosic fibres should be at least 3% and for mineral fibres at least 6%. The mineral fibres may be glass or rockwool fibres. The surfactant may be sodium benzene dodecyl sulphonate. In an example, a mixture of glass fibres and polypropylene powder are added to a foamed mixture of air, water, and surfactant, to form a fibre dispersion having a fibre consistency of 20% by wt. and approximately 65% air by volume. The foamed dispersion was then formed into a sheet having a basis wt of 3600 g/m2.
