Abstract

1426982 Polyazo dyes BAYER AG 8 May 1974 [9 May 1973 17 May 1973] 20246/74 Heading C4P Novel dyes of formula (where D is a diazo component radical and R is an optionally substituted C 2-4 alkyl radical) are prepared by diazotizing the corresponding alkoxy aniline-sulphonic acid and the amine of formula D-NH 2 and coupling in optional sequence with J-acid urea. Alternatively the dyes may be prepared by reacting the corresponding monoazo compound with phosgene to form symmetrical disazo dyes or using a mixture of monoazo compounds to form the unsymmetrical disazo dyes; also one monoazo compound may be reacted with chloroformic acid phenyl ester and then after elimination of phenol the intermediate product is reacted with the other monoazo compound. The monoazo dyes are prepared by diazotizing the corresponding amine and coupling with N-acetyl-J-acid followed by saponification of the acetyl group. The dyes of Formula (I) prepared include a trisazo dye in which the radical D is derived from 4-aminoazobenzene. The dyes are used for colouring natural materials particularly cotton, wool, leather and especially paper.
