Abstract

1426942 Fuzes for hand grenades INTEREP ASSOCIES SA 17 May 1973 [18 May 1972] 23553/73 Heading F3A A fuze for a hand grenade comprises a housing 1, Fig. 1; a slidable detent 2 closed by an end cap 11; a slidable inertia block 4; a displaceable striker 3; locking balls 5, 6, 7; and springs 8, 9, 10. In use, the detent 2 is depressed manually (Fig. 2, not shown) to release the inertia block from the locking action of balls 5, but the striker is kept locked by balls 6, 7. Thereafter, by subjecting the grenade to a throwing action and keeping the detent depressed, the freed inertia block moves upwardly to release the balls 6 (Fig. 3, not shown), but the balls 7 continue to lock the striker. When the grenade is subsequently released for flight, the detent is no longer manually restrained and is lifted by the spring 10 (Fig. 4, not shown) to release the balls 6 and free the striker for retarded movement towards a primer. Should the detent be released before subjecting the grenade to the throwing action, then the mechanism is automatically returned by the spring 10 to the safe position shown in Fig. 1.
