Abstract

1426555 Forms of wood; working wood C A JONES 9 April 1975 [19 April 1972] 18135/72 Heading B5L A method of producing a compressed wood panel, e.g. a building panel, comprises the steps of arranging in a mould having a shape such as to produce a panel or plurality of logs, adding a liquid adhesive to the mould, applying a first pressure to the logs in the mould, releasing the pressure to allow the logs to expand and to suck in the adhesive, applying a second pressure to the logs, which is lower than the first pressure, heating the mould and its contents in an oven to bake the formed panel, and removing the panel from the mould. In one example the mould is heated to 90‹ F. before applying a first pressure of 1000 lbs./sq. in. by hydraulic means. After adding adhesive and releasing the pressure a second pressure of 500 lbs/sq. in. is applied and the mould placed in an oven at 300‹ F. After cooling, the panel is removed from the mould. The adhesive may be a phenolic resin, the impregnating pressure 800-1500 lbs./sq. in. the applied temperature 300-350‹ F. and the wood poplar, fir, spruce or pine.
