Abstract

1426426 Washing machines HOOVER Ltd 7 March 1973 [8 March 1972] 10799/72 Heading DIA A washing machine having a horizontally mounted drum comprises a drum support which supports the drum 18 substantially entirely from below by a single unit comprising a coil spring 51 and coaxially arranged damper unit 66 the axis of which acts through or near the centre of gravity of the drum assembly and resilient spring centering means (not shown) between the machine frame and the assembly which support only a small percentage of the drum weight. As shown a strut 28 is located in a strut 26 by a nylon washer 33 a rubber washer 41 and a metal washer 40 which acts on a shoulder 38 of strut 28. The damping unit comprises a two part member 70 or a one part member with a longitudinal slit which member has curved portions acting on an annular member 53 and a curved portion 63 of a support arm on the drum 18. The spring 51 acts on the lower surface of member 53. Damping action is provided by the action of member 70 on the strut 28. The member 70 may be formed of acetal, sintered iron or bronze or plastics material.
