Abstract
1426423 Colour anodizing aluminium; electro-phoretic painting FUJISASH INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Dec 1974 52417/74 Heading C7B A coloured anodic coating is produced on Al (alloy) by passing D.C. between the Al (alloy) as an anode and at least one cathode, e.g. stainless steel bars, through an aqueous electrolyte comprising (a) aromatic sulphonic acid, preferably 10 to 500 g/l of sulphophthalic or sulphosalicylic acid, (b) formic acid and/or formate e.g. of Ni or NH 4 , preferably 5 to 200 g/l (formic acid), and optionally (c) sulphuric acid and/or (bi) sulphate of metal or NH4, preferably not higher than 5 g/l (H 2 SO 4 ). Preferably the C.D. is 0À5 to 5 A/dm<SP>2</SP> and voltage is 20 to 120 volts. Prior to coating, the Al (alloy) may be degreased and etched. The anodic coating may be electro-phoretically painted and heated without cracking or discoloration.
