Abstract
1425865 Ball projecting and catching device; manipulative toys DART INDUSTRIES Inc 31 May 1973 [5 June 1972] 25995/73 Headings A6D and A6S A toy construction 10 adapted for the projection and reception of projectiles, e.g. a table tennis ball 16, includes a collapsible pressure producing propellent device 12, a chamber 32 for receiving and guiding the ball 16, and a receptacle 42 for catching the ball 16. As described the propellent device 12 is a collapsible bellows type element consisting of a hemispherical bottom wall 20, a pleated or corrugated wall 18 and a restricted fluid outlet 22. The device 12 is preferably blow-moulded from polyethylene and is formed with a threaded portion 24. The receptacle and chamber combination 14 is also moulded from polyethylene and is formed with a thread 34 by means of which it is fixed to the propellent device 12. The chamber 32 includes a first conical section 36 which acts as a seat for the ball 16 and a second conical section 38 of smaller angle than the first section 36 and which guides the ball 16. The first section 36 has a length L1 approximate to the diameter of the ball 16 and the second section 38 has a length L2 of between 1.25 and 3.25 times the diameter of the ball 16. The receptacle portion 42 consists of a plurality of divergent ribs 46 formed integrally with a rim 50.
