Abstract
1424608 Image pick-up tubes MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 10 Oct 1973 [12 Oct 1972 5 Dec 1972 (4)] 47369/73 Headings H1D and H1K A method of manufacturing a target for image pick-up tube comprises depositing by evaporation a first layer 3, of ZnS x Se 1-x or Zn u Cd 1-u S, on a light transmitting substrate 1 having a transparent conductive film 2 thereon, depositing by evaporation a second layer 4, of (Zn y Cd 1-y Te) z (In 2 Te 3 ) 1-z , on said first layer 3, and heating the laminate so formed in an inert gas atmosphere or in vacuum. The coefficient of linear expansion of the substrate 1 is between 55‹ and 110 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹ C. and the heating temperature is between 350‹ and 650‹ C. for 5 to 90 minutes. In a modified method, the laminate is heated a second tine at a lower temperature, preferably 150‹ to 400‹ C. for 20 minutes to 3 hours. Preferably evaporation is from a single source at 700‹ to 900‹ C. with the substrate 1 heated to between 100‹ to 250‹ C. Dual-source evaporation or flash evaporation may alternatively be used. The layer 3 is between 0À05 to 0À1 microns thick and the layer 4 is 2 to 10 microns thick. The chemical composition of the layers 3, 4 is such that x=0, 0À1 to 0À2, y=0À7, z=0À95 and u= 0À9. The characteristics of the targets and the method of obtaining the characteristics are described.
