Abstract
1424421 Preparation of haloacetophenones YEDA RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 22 Jan 1973 [24 Jan 1972] 3114/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the production of halogen-substituted derivatives of acetophenone from the respective halo-cumenes, wherein halogen designates chlorine or bromine, the molecule containing either one nuclear halogen substituent in the para-position or two such substituents in the meta- and para-positions with respect to the isopropyl group, which comprises the following steps: (a) oxidizing a halo-substituted cumene by means of air or oxygen, (b) subjecting the reaction product to dehydrating conditions, (c) separating halogenated methyl styrene thus produced from the un-reacted halogenated acetophenone, and (d) subjecting the halogenated methyl styrene to oxidation by air or oxygen; the oxidation steps (a) and (d) being effected in the presence of a catalytically effective quantity of a cobalt salt, a chromium compound, an alkali metal hydroxide or a metal phthalocyanine, at a temperature of from 100 to 160 C.
