Abstract

1423672 Upsetting; making hinge pins ED SCHARWACHTER KG 3 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 21072/73 Addition to 1423671 Headings B3H and B3A [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A self-locking hinge pin 1 is formed from a length of wire provided with one or more axial grooves 2 by severing the wire and upsetting a head 4 on one end of the cut-off length. The wire has a circular cross-section and the pin may be knurled 5 or have a polygonal or oval cross-section formed under the head after the upsetting. The or each groove acts as a lubricating groove and may be widened 15, Fig. 6, and extended through the head 4 by milling. The hinge pin may be used in a hinge with a slit (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), and a countersink (12) for feeding lubricant to the groove or grooves or in a hinge with one or more radial bores (13), Fig. 4 (not shown), provided with a plug (14) or nipple.
