Abstract
1423424 Facsimile DAINIPPON SCREEN SEIZO KK 13 Feb 1973 7105/73 Heading H4F In a facsimile system in which the duplicate at 1, Fig. 1, can be made smaller or larger than the original at 2, the magnification or dimutation is affected by a corresponding ratio in the speeds of rotation of the respective drums and possibly in their diameters. In order that the duplicate should not exhibit distorsion due to successive lines not being in synchronism, each line of the original video signal is stored and then read out to the duplicating means when said means commences its meet line. Thus, in the case of a reduction in size, and same diameter drums, the original drum 2 rotates faster than the duplicate drum and exhibits the short line periods C1b, C2b, C3b, Fig. 2 as against the longer line periods C1, C2, at the duplicate drum. The line outputs (b) of the original scanner 10 are successively stored and readout at the next duplicate time period, to be fed to the duplicate recording head as signal (C). It is thus possible that some original lines-e.g. C4b may not be duplicated. To ensure that the drums rotate at their correct speeds a sampling pulse and line sync. pulse generator 15, 16 is coupled to the drive shafts of the drums, each generator comprising Fig. 3, a light source 102 transmitting a beam through two rotating drums 100, 101, the former scribed with lines giving the sampling pulses in photodetector 110 and the latter scribed with a single line giving the line sync. pulse in photodetector 111. Drum 1 is driven at constant speed by synchronous motor 3 such that constant frequency sampling pulses 21a are fed to magnification conversion unit 23, Fig. 4. These are frequency multiplied at 24 by the desired size ratio, using voltage setter control 25, to give constant higher frequency pulses 26. The sampling pulses 22a from the original generator 16 are compared for phase and frequency at 27 with pulses 26 and any error is used to correct the pulsed motor 4 driving the original drum. (For Figures see next page.)
