Abstract

1423398 Electro-erosion; workpiece clamping KOTOBUKI DIE CASTING CO Ltd 4 April 1973 [7 April 1972 27 April 1972 24 May 1972 (3) 6 July 1972] 16191/73 Headings B3V and B3B A jig for holding an electro-erosion electrode C or a workpiece comprises a body 21 having an axial channel 22, a holder 31 for supporting the electrode C or workpiece and a bolt 28 for pressing two perpendicular flat surfaces of the holder 31 against contact surfaces 23 of the channel 22. In one embodiment, an electrode C is held by a bolt 33 to a holder 31 which is held against two flat surfaces 23 of a bore 22 in the jig body 21 and against an upper stop 30 by a bolt 28 engaging a notch 42 in the holder 31. The lower surface of the holder 31 is provided with projections 47 for indenting the electrode C to facilitate the resetting thereof. The precise position to be machined may be determined by substituting the holder 31 for a tool (Fig. 10, not shown). Debris produced by machining may be removed by suction via a bore 24 or oil under pressure may be supplied to a bore 39 in the electrode C via the bore 24. In another embodiment (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) the jig body 21 is U-shaped and is connected by bolts (46) passing through screw holes 29 to a disc (45) which is attached to a shaft of the E.D.M. apparatus. The jig body 21 may be provided with grooves (49) (Figs. 13 and 14, not shown) which enable it to be clamped by claws (G, H), (53) to a chuck or to a plate (51). The jig may alternatively be mounted on a table of a machine tool (Fig. 15, not shown) or in a vice (Fig. 16, not shown). The faces 23 of the bore 22 in the jig body 21 may be provided with ridges (50) (Fig. 13).
