Abstract

1421928 Measuring speed and direction of fluid-flow electrically VOGELBUSCH GmbH 26 March 1973 14504/73 Heading G1N Apparatus for sensing the speed and direction of flow of a current of fluid comprises a flow body 1 carried by an element 5 mounted for pivoting freely on a fixed support 4 about a first and vertical axis 3 the flow body being pivotally mounted by supports 6 to the element 5 for pivoting freely about a second and horizontal axis 2 the flow body having an impeller 16 carrying a conductive sector 20 which acts with coils 17, 18 and oscillator 21 to sense the speed of fluid-flow; the flow body further including a primary coil 11 A.C. energized by the oscillator and generating an e.m. field sensed by the secondary coil 12 carried on the upper part 8 of the fixed support to provide a voltage indicative of the elevation angle of the flow body, the part 8 carrying two secondary coils 14, 15 spaced by 90 degrees relative to the first axis and sensing an e.m. field from primary coil 13 on the element 5, the voltages from the secondaries 14, 15 providing a measurement of the azimuth angle of the flow body, which body is shaped to adopt a predetermined orientation with respect to the direction of flow of a current of fluid flowing thereover.
