Abstract
1421706 Stranding machines SCHWERMASCHINENBAU - KOMBINAT ERNST THALMANN MAGDEBURG VEB 9 May 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 20599/74 Heading D1T The invention relates to a stranding machine provided with co-axially arranged reels 5, Fig. 1, for the production of wire ropes or electric cables, which machine consists of one or more stranding units having a hollow shaft 4 on which the reels are mounted in one or more pairs, means being provided for drawing off wire from one reel of a said pair whilst winding wire onto the other reel of said pair, and means for driving and braking the reels, there being arranged between the reels of a pair a wire draw-off arm device 6 which is connected to and rotates with the hollow shaft 4 and which can be swung from one reel to the other of said pair. According to the invention there is a friction clutch device 17, Fig. 2, for drivingly connecting one reel of each pair at a time to the rotor shaft 4, means 13 for adjusting the friction drive in dependence upon wire tension, said friction clutch being mounted on and operable by the rotational movement of the wire draw-off arm device 6; brake means for each reel; and an axially displaceable friction wheel drive 36 for each reel when wire is to be wound thereon. Draw-off arm device 6 and friction clutch 17. In Fig. 2 the draw-off arm device 6, 7, 8, 9 rotates with the shaft 4. The reels 5 on each side of the draw-off arm device can selectively rotate relatively to the shaft 4. When the drawoff arm device is swung to a setting over the right-hand reel a cam disc 10 that rotates with the draw-off arm causes a first friction shoe 17 carried by the draw-off arm device to engage. and drive the right-hand reel; and causes a second friction shoe 17 carried by the drawoff arm device to retract from and so release the left-hand reel. Similarly when the drawoff arm device 6, 7, 8, 9 is swung to a setting over the left-hand reel it is the left-hand reel that is coupled to the shaft 4 and the righthand reel that is released. The drawn-off wire passes over a dancer pulley 13 and into the hollow shaft. A spring 44 loads the pulley 13 in a direction opposite to that resulting from the tension in the wire. If the tension in the wire becomes too great the dancer pulley 13 rocks a pendulum arm 45 in a direction reducing the frictional force of the shoe 17 acting on the reel that is being unwound. Winding wire onto the reels. A driven shaft 35, Fig. i, carries a plurality of frcition wheels 36 that can be brought into engagement with friction cones 53 secured to the flanges of the reels, the arrangement being such that all the left-hand reels of the pairs of reels can be wound with wire whilst the right-hand reels are being unwound for stranding purposes, and vice versa. Brake. Each reel is provided with a brake. The brake may be a disc brake actuated pneumatically or hydraulically. Belt or shoe brakes may also be used. Stop-motion. A sensor 41, Fig. 1, measures the amount of wire on a reel 5 and cuts out the drive for the on-winding reels 5 when a predetermined amount of wire wound onto a reel 5 is reached.
