Abstract

1420884 Change-speed gear DAIMLERBENZ AG 28 Jan 1974 [9 Feb 1973] 03767/74 Heading F2D A motor vehicle gear-box comprising a plurality of epicyclic units of which the reactive member of the unit 11 at the output side of the gear-box can be braked by a band brake 17 is provided, between the main housing section 10 containing the epicyclic units and an end section 20, with an intermediate section 19 containing a multiple-disc brake 22 to supplement the band brake to adapt the gear-box for transmission of higher torques. As shown, the planetary carrier 14 of the unit 11 drives the output shaft 15, and the sun 16 is the reactive member which can be braked by the band brake 17 and by the disc brake 22 to which it is connected by a hub 18 and a disc carrier 23, the latter having an extension 24 abutting a thrust bearing 25. The hub 18 is supported by a bearing 32 in a plate 30 which serves as abutment for the brake discs and centres the housing section 19 relatively to the section 10. The disc brake is actuated simultaneously with the band brake by a piston 27 with return springs 29.
