Abstract

1420690 Fuel tank filling/venting TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 6 Sept 1973 [6 Nov 1972] 42016/73 Heading B8V [Also in Division B7] To prevent the escape of fuel vapours from the open end of the filler spout 11 of a fuel tank during filling of the tank, a resilient tapered sleeve 21 (Fig. 2) is fitted within the end of the spout and is expandable by an inserted fuel discharge nozzle 14 (Fig. 3) to sealingly engage the nozzle. During normal tank filling, vapours displaced from the tank are vented through means (not shown) incorporated in nozzle 14 either to a closed receptacle or a condenser. Excessive tank pressure may be relieved through flaps 37 in sleeve 21. The sleeve, which includes strengthening ribs 27, is mounted on an annular member 28, which is itself releasably secured to the terminal flange 17/18 of the spout 11. A surface 32 of the annular member 28 provides a seating to which filler cap 19 may be releasably secured by inter-engaging lugs and slots 34, 33.
