Abstract

142,055. Eras, V. J. M. Dec. 3, 1919. Guarding against unauthorized use.-Relates to a locking-device for the wheels of bicycles or the like of the type in which a horse-shoe-shaped strap 1 secured to the frame of the machine carries at one end a pivoted arm 3 adapted to be moved between the spokes of the wheel and into locking engagement with the other end of the strap, the arm, when released, being turned back clear of the spokes by a spring 10 and held in open position by a pawl 5 engaging a notch 11 in the arm. According to the invention, this notch is so located that it is engaged by the pawl before the arm 3 reaches the limit of its opening movement, so that, if when cycling the vibration of the machine jolts the pawl out of engagement with the notch, the spring 10, which controls both the arm and pawl, will move the arm still further outwards.
