Abstract

1420321 Pile fabrics I W S NOMINEE CO Ltd 26 March 1973 [24 March 1972] 13966/72 Addition to 1283078 Heading D1K Pile fabric is formed by bringing the free ends of the pile of a first pre-formed pile fabric into contact with a softened pre-formed layer of thermoplastics material under pressure, and then severing the pile between the backing of the first pile fabric and the layer of thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic layer may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides such as nylon 6, polyvinyl such as polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylacetate and polyvinylidene chloride, polyacrylics and modacrylics, polyurethanes and cellulose esters such as cellulose acetate and may be 0.001 to 0.01 inches thick. The first pile fabric may be an Axminster carpet with woollen/nylon or wholly woollen tufts. A pressure of 10-500 pounds p.s.i. may be employed and the thermoplastics layer may be softened by heating.
