1419722 Locks; keys GAO GES FUR AUTOMATION UND ORGANISATION mbH 9 Jan 1974 [23 Jan 1973] 01050/74 Heading E2A In an adjustable locking device including a lock and a key having adjusting rings 4 mounted on the stem 2 thereof and only rotatable after insertion of the key in the lock which has a number of test rings 17 corresponding in number to the number of rings 4 and concentrically surrounding the rings 4 when the key is inserted in the lock, the rings 17 including a number of tumblers permitting moving of the coupled adjusting and test rings in discrete steps, the key comprises a hollow stem 2 on which the rings 4 are mounted, each ring having an axial notch 6 in its peripheral surface and inside which stem is an axially displaceable spindle 8 divided into a number of sections, each including a tapered portion 9, corresponding in number to the number of rings 4, the stem having in its periphery a number of bores 10 each carrying a ball 11 for engaging an internal groove 12 of a respective adjusting ring for preventing rotation thereof and which, when the key is inserted in the lock so as to displace the spindle, drop out of the bores, to permit rotation of the rings 4. The lock includes a housing 14 and a core socket 16 rotatable therein and surrounding the rings 17, the tumblers being mounted in bores 25, 26 and 27 in the housing, the core socket and test rings, each bore being associated with a tumbler pin which pins are in alignment with one another in given angular positions of the adjusting and test rings relative to the housing. One of the test ring bores 27 has a tumbler pin 31 longer than the pins 30 in the other bores 27 of the test ring, the length of that tumbler pin exceeding that of the other shorter pins 30 by the depth of the notches 6. Grooves 24, for reception of a rib on the collar 3 of the key are provided in the housing 14 and core socket 16 for inserting the key in proper position and for performing locking and unlocking movements. There may be provided means to enable a particular key to become associated with a particular lock and comprising levers 35 pivoted on the lock housing 14 and each engageable with a bolt 45 in abutment with a door frame 46 of a door in which the lock is installed. The levers are instrumental in retaining the test rings in a desired position and allow the latter to be re-adjusted upon manual actuation of the bolts 45.
