Abstract

1419520 Electro-photographic apparatus ELECTROPRINT Inc 11 Nov 1972 [11 Nov 1971] 45427/72 Heading G2H A developed image of an original 30 is produced on a paper held on conductive plate 20 by projection of toner particles from source 14 through modulating screen 24. The screen 24 comprises an array of individually controllable apertures, each with means for forming a first field within the aperture so polarized as to block the passage of particles, means for forming a second field counteracting the first field and means for discharging the second field. Preferably the screen 24 comprises an insulating layer 40 between two conductive layers 38, 42, and has a photo-conductive layer towards its rear face 28. Until projected light from the original falls on the photo-conductive layer surrounding an aperture in the screen, fields set up between the conductive layers 38, 42 block the passage of toner particles.
