Abstract
1419039 lonization chambers XONICS Inc 2 Jan 1974 [2 Jan 1973 14 Aug 1973] 00122/74 Heading H1D [Also in Division G2] An ionization chamber filled with a gas, such as krypton or xenon, and which can be used for forming an image on a charged storage sheet for xerographic reproduction, comprises spaced parallel planar or coaxial cylindrical electrodes modified so that an electric field produced between them will be equivalent to the radial field obtained between two concentric spheres. In Fig. 5, the planar electrodes are cathode 21 and anode 24 both made of high resistance material with the centre of the cathode connected by resistor 31 to the perimeter of the anode 24 and a current is passed between the centre A of the anode 24 and the perimeter D of the cathode resulting in a desired potential variation over the electrode surfaces. In Fig. 8 (not shown) a similar effect is obtained by constructing the electrodes from annuli of materials having different conductivities. In Fig. 10 (not shown) planar electrodes are covered on their inner surfaces with composite dielectric coatings each consisting of two layers of different materials of a thickness varying radially but with the two thickness adding up to a constant thickness. Cylindrical electrode embodiments using the same principles are described with reference to Figs. 7 and 9 (not shown).
