Abstract

1418984 Boring earth &c BAKER OIL TOOLS Inc 29 March 1973 [8 May 1972] 15138/73 Heading E1F In a rotary-percussive bit having a body 20 with a drilling face 18 supporting buttons 14a..14e, which in use collectively act on P the bottom area of the hole, the ratio - D (see Fig. 8) is greater than 0.7. Gauge but- P tons 15 also have the ratio - greater than D .07. Exhaust air from a down hole percussive drill which is rotated by a drill string, passes through ducts 16, 17 to scavenge the drilling debris. In a modification, the buttons 14a, 14b have a smaller diameter than the buttons 14c, 14d, 14e, the buttons 14e being inclined to the bit axis.
