Abstract

1418239 Timing ignition FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 23 Nov 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 54484/73 Heading F1B [ Also in Division H2] A signal generator comprises a rotatable shaft 16 passing through an annular bushing 54 mounted in an aperture in a stationary plate 52, and a stator assembly including an annular hub 58 rotatably mounted on the bushing and carrying a second plate 62 parallel to the first plate, a permanent magnet 64, Fig. 6, mounted on the second plate and magnetized in a direction perpendicular to the plate, a core 66 mounted on the permanent magnet and having a pole piece 86 surrounded by a coil 68, and a rotor 42 fixed to the shaft, the rotor having at least one tooth positioned to come into and go out of alignment with the pole piece so that rotation of the shaft produces in the coil an A.C. signal having a frequency proportional to the speed of the shaft. The signal generator is an ignition generator and the toothed rotor is mounted on a ferromagnetic sleeve 22 which is coupled to the shaft 16 through a spring and weight centrifugal device 26 providing ignition timing control. The whole stator assembly is angularly movable about bushing 54 in response to a vacuum device 76, Fig. 2 (not shown), to provide further ignition timing control. Lubricating channels are formed on the shaft and on the outer surface of bushing 54.
