1418121 Fire resistant coating compositions FLAMEMASTER CORP 17 Jan 1973 [17 Jan 1972] 2418/73 Addition to 1297710 Heading C3P [Also in Division F2] A self-extinguishing fire-protective coating composition comprises. 1À5-65 wt. per cent resin solids of a water-based resinous emulsion, 2À5-70 wt. per cent of a non-combustible fibrous material, 0À5-15 wt. per cent of an antimony compound, at least 1 wt. per cent of a plasticizer for the resinous emulsion, and said composition containing 0À5-18 wt. per cent of organically bound halogen, the percentages being based on the total weight of the composition. The halogen, which is preferably chlorine or bromine may be present either in one of the above specified components, or a further component such as chlorinated biphenyl hexabromocyclododecane or tetrabromophthalic anhydride (the latter two are used in the examples). Specified essential components of the composition which may contain the halogen are the resin (polyvinyl chloride or polyvinylidene chloride) and the plasticizer (tris-beta bromoethyl phosphate, tris beta chloro ethyl phosphate-both used in examples- and also chlorinated biphenyl). Non-halogenated plasticizers specified are butyl benzyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, tricresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, cresyl diphenyl phosphate, tritolyl phosphate or any mixture of two or more thereof. The fibres may be of glass, asbestos, carbon, quartz talc, nylon or a phenolic polymer. The fibres may be a mixture of short fibres (up to -<SP>1</SP>/ 32 inch long) and long fibres (up to ¢ inch long). In the examples the resin emulsion is based on polyvinylacetate or an ethylene/ vinylacetate copolymer. Specification 1,297,710 (the parent) is referred to by disclaimer.
