1416991 Castors BRITISH CASTORS Ltd 22 Nov 1972 [24 Nov 1971 29 April 1972] 54528/71 and 19998/72 Heading B7C [Also in Division A4] A castor comprises a body 10 adapted to be mounted on an article of furniture for pivoting movement about a substantially upright pivot axis, and two interconnected wheels 19, 20 rotatably mounted on the body for rotation about an axis 18, the wheels 19, 20 including respective interfitting integral formations which locate them relative to each other. An upright spindle for engaging a socket in the article may be rotatably located in a socket in the body, a projection on the socket wall being snapengaged in a groove in the spindle, Fig. 2 (not shown). The wheels 19, 20 have interengaging spigots 26, 27 which interengagement may or may not permit relative rotation of the wheels. A headed retaining plug has a shank 29 which fits into the spigot 26 and has a projection for snap engagement with a groove 32 in the spigot bore. Alternatively the plug may be secured by adhesive or welding. Co-operating splines may be provided on the shank and in the spigot bore, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). The spigots are rotatably mounted in a sleeve 11 of the body 10. In a second embodiment, Figs. 7 to 10 (not shown), the wheels have opposed spigots which have the same diameter and have interfitting head and socket snap-fit interengaging formations at their opposed ends. In a third embodiment, Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the wheels have interengaging spigots one of which has a groove which is snap-engaged by a rib or a plurality of projections on the other. Additionally or alternatively the spigots may be secured together by an adhesive or welding; and they may have co-operating splines. In a fourth embodiment, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown), similar to the third embodiment, the wheels are spaced further apart for a width which exceeds that of the body to give a more compact arrangement. The castor components may be formed of the same or dissimilar plastics material, e.g. nylon or acetal resin, or they may be formed partly or entirely of metal.
