Abstract

1416871 Purification of sulphur slurries BRITISH GAS CORP 28 Dec 1972 [24 Feb 1972 14 June 1972 6 July 1972] 8551/72 27765/72 and 31587/72 Heading C1A Aqueous sulphur slurries are treated with gaseous CO 2 , heated and passed to an autoclave in which gaseous CO 2 is present under pressure, the slurry is further heated so as to melt the sulphur and molten sulphur and liquor are withdrawn separately from the autocalve. The sulphur slurry may contain 2 to 10% weight/ weight of sulphur and this may be concentrated in a centrifuge to 30-50% weight/weight prior to autoclaving. A portion of the liquor discharged from the autoclave may be admixed with the concentrated slurry to facilitate flow thereof.
