Abstract
1416567 Rotary mixing apparatus DIERKS & SOHNE 18 Oct 1973 [28 Oct 1972] 48588/73 Heading B1C Mixing apparatus for the mixing of particulate materials comprises a horizontally disposed cylindrical mixing vessel 1 having a feed inlet 2 at one end and a discharge outlet 3 at the other end, the vessel containing a rotatable horizontal paddle carrier with a plurality of paddles thereon which are rotatable within the vessel, the carrier consisting of two co-aligned independent shafts 14 and 15 projecting inwardly from each end of the vessel and supported in respective single bearings in housings 12 and 13, the shafts being coupled to separate independent drive means 16, 18, 20, 22 and 29, 19, 21, 23. The drive means is operable to permit the speed and direction of each carrier shaft to be varied. The vessel 1 may be made up of a plurality of cylindrical sections 5, 6, 7 and 8 and at least one of the housings 13 supporting the ends of the vessel and carrier shaft bearing is displaceable longitudinally and or transversely so as to separate the vessel into two portions on a transverse plane to permit cleaning and repair when necessary. The longitudinal displacement is provided by mounting the end housing 13 on a bush 27 on a shaft 26 and the displacement is effected by screw or hydraulic means. The transverse displacement is effected by pivoting the housing with its respective carrier shaft and vessel portion, about an axis 29 which is parallel to the axis of the carrier shaft 4 a screwed handwheel 32, 31 is shown in the embodiment for this purpose. The paddles are mounted on bosses on the respective carrier shafts those at each end being secured to the shaft and the intermediate units being dowelled or pinned together to ensure rotation with shaft. The paddle blades are arranged to extend radially towards the inner wall of the vessel and are "skewed" in predetermined groups so as to provide the appropriate mixing and feeding action of the material along the vessel from the inlet to the outlet.
