Abstract

1415491 Reciprocating pumps COLORFLO Ltd 16 Oct 1972 [14 Oct 1971] 47955/71 Heading F1A [Also in Divisions B6 and F2] A pump for the printing fluid of an intaglio printing apparatus [Division B6] consists of a main piston 20 and an auxiliary piston 36 which slides in a bore within it. When the platen 11 moves downwards the increase in pressure in printing fluid beneath the piston 20 raises the ball 47 thus closing the inlet 46 from the fluid reservoir. Further pressure increase, due to continued downward movement of the piston 20, raises the piston 36 thus allowing the pressurized fluid to pass to the outlet 32 in the lower platen 10. Belleville washers 62 ensure that the correct printing pressure is established beneath the lower platen before the piston 20 moves downwards relative to the housing.
