Abstract

1415208 Feeding sheets HAMADA PRINTING PRESS MFG CO Ltd 19 March 1973 [14 April 1972] 13058/73 Heading B8R Sheets are separated from the top of a pile 5 and forwarded to rollers 7, 7<SP>1</SP> by suction cups 30, 30<SP>1</SP> which are arranged to be brought successively into contact with the top sheet of the pile. The suction cups are pivotally mounted at opposite ends of an elongated cam follower 12 which engages the surfaces of a cut-out portion 15 in a cam plate 14. The follower is rotatably mounted on a shaft 11 which shaft is movable in a circular path by eccentric connection to a drive shaft concentric with the centre of the cutout portion 15. An air passage 50 permits the area of the cut-out on one side of the follower 12 to be evacuated while an air passage 51 vents to atmosphere. Air passages 54 and 54<SP>1</SP> connect with the suction cups so that as the follower rotates the cups are alternately connected to vacuum and vented to atmosphere. A pair of discs 13 and slide plates 12 seal the sides of the cut-out portion. Each suction cup is connected to a cam follower roller 34, 34<SP>1</SP> which engage a stationary cam surface so that each cup is held parallel to the sheet pile during separation. A blow-pipe 40 is arranged to be brought to a position beneath each sheet as it is lifted by the suction cups to thereby assist separation. End stops 6 may be pivoted away from the pile at the moment of separation.
