Abstract
1414623 Valves J M SHEARDOWN 11 Jan 1973 [11 Oct 1971] 47324/71 Heading F2V A non-return valve for preventing contamination of a fluid supply source under suction conditions includes a vacuum-relief valve to guard against mal-functioning of the non-return valve. The non-return valve comprises a ball 4, of resilient material of a lower specific gravity than the fluid controlled, and a seat 5. The vacuumrelief valve comprises a ring member 16, which may be of neoprene, covering apertures 15 leading to the atmosphere. Adjacent apertures may be connected by surface grooves 17 to improve the sealing action. In an alternative embodiment the roles of the valve members are reversed, the non-return valve consisting of a ring member similar to member 16 and the vacuum-relief valve consisting of a resilient ball member of a material having a higher specific gravity than the fluid controlled.
