Abstract

1413878 Cleaning a strainer in a duct SIEMENS AG 15 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 2108/73 Heading BID A perforate strainer 2 in a duct 1 is cleaned by periodically moving butterfly valve 6 into the position shown, where it allows limited flow past the strainer but generates eddies downstream of the valve to remove solids from the strainer, then opening valve 5 to discharge the solids through conduit 4. When valve 5 is opened, valve 6 may be moved partly back towards its normal position (dotted lines). There may be a gap between valve 6 and the strainer in the position shown. Conduit 4 supports the downstream end of the strainer, which may be frustoconical, pyramidal or cylindrical. Valves 5, 6 may be actuated in correct sequence by a means monitoring the pressure drop across the strainer.
