Abstract

1413355 Treating exhaust gases NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 20 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 8313/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] I.C. engine exhaust gases are treated for oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and reduction of nitrogen oxides by passage over a catalyst comprising a carrier and, in oxide form, nickel, chromium and iron in total amount of 0À1 to 3À0 moles/litre of carrier, calculated as metals, the molar ratio of Ni : Cr being 20 : 1 to 1 : 5. The catalyst may also contain an oxide of copper, palladium or cerium and may be supported. The support may be monolithic, e.g. cordierite, beta-spodumene, alpha-alumina or mullite, and may be coated with an active alumina, e.g. gamma- or kappaalumina. Alternatively, the support may be non-monolithic, e.g. alpha-, gamma-, delta- or chi-alumina.
