Abstract

1412927 Brine electrolysis cell HOOKER CHEMICALS and PLASTICS CORP 17 June 1974 [5 July 1973] 26789/74 Heading C7B An electrolytic cell for brine electrolysis, comprising a top cover section (not shown), a middle cathode section 1 and a bottom anode section 3, is maintained liquid tight by a plurality of holddown devices each of which comprises a bolt having a shaft 8 and an expanded head 7 positioned so that the shaft passes througha pair of vertically aligned apertures in extensions 2,4 attached on the exterior of respective cathode and anode sections, a compression spring 10 surrounding the shaft extending beyond the extensions, an adjustable fastener e.g. nut 9 on the shaft and insulating means for the bolt, e.g. a sleeve 11 and washers 13 of rubber, PTFE, paper or cellulose fabric impregnated with phenolic or melamine resin, glass, asbestos or synthetic fibre. The cathode and anode sections may be separated by gasket 5 of similar insluating material with seal 6 of asphaltic or mastic bituminous material.
