Abstract
1411398 Metal oxide casting CARBORUNDUM CO 22 Dec 1972 [3 Jan 1972] 59500/72 Heading C1J A process for making abrasive grain comprises adding to a melt comprising a major proportion of Al 2 O 3 and a minor proportion of ZrO 2 a metal or metal alloy which increases the fluidity of the melt and which is oxidizable under the conditions of the melt, cooling the melt in a thin sheet and crushing to produce the abrasive grain. The metal is Al or Al alloy and may be added as increments on pouring portions of the melt.
