Abstract

1410594 Containers; load handling pallets TRANSIT PACKAGING Ltd R K WALDEN A H TOMPKINS and H A ROSS 23 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 50496/71 Headings B8P and B8H A container, stillage or pallet having a bottom wall formed of at least two superimposed layers includes at least two supports or a composite support structure for spacing the bottom wall from the ground, each of which supports has tongues sandwiched between the two layers. The container body may be erected from a blank (Fig. 1, not shown) including four bottom forming flaps hinged to four side walls. The support tongues may be inserted into slots in an opposed pair of bottom flaps or into the gaps along the edges of the bottom wall. A pallet may include a bottom wall of several layers of board, the tongues of three supports being sandwiched between different layers. In another embodiment a pallet includes a flat sheet having two slotted end flaps which are turned under to receive the support tongues. Each support comprises an exterior portion to which the tongues are hinged. The support may comprise wooden blocks 64, 65 sandwiched between wooden battens 62, 63, and plywood tongues 68, 69 hinged by flexible metal strips 66, 67. The battens 62 may be dispensed with and the supports interconnected by further battens 72 to form the composite support structure. The supports alternatively may be formed of plastics.
