Abstract

1410561 Knee prosthesis J J M E HERBERT and M H GROS 8 Jan 1973 [14 Jan 1972] 1047/73 Heading A5R A prosthesis of the knee comprises a femoral element 10 having an articular portion 11 with a convex front wall 12 enclosing a substantially spherical cavity 13 which is open at the back and at the bottom, and a tibial element 14 having an articular portion 15 comprising two spherical caps 16, 17 joined by a cylindrical portion 18, the element 14 being engageable in the element 10 only when the elements are at right angles and retained therein in any other angular position. The element 14 further comprises a pivot 20 the top face of which is divided into two segments, a rear segment supporting the articular portion 15 and a front segment which is indined forwards and upwards and locks the prosthesis in the fully extended position. The prosthesis is secured in position by means of shanks 27, 28 and plates 25, 26. The walls of the articular portions may be lined with a lubricant.
