Abstract
1410160 Gas turbine engine air intakes DORNIER GmbH 23 Jan 1974 [12 April 1973] 03149/74 Heading F1G An aircraft engine nacelle comprises outer and inner parts 1, 6 which define an annular air intake, the leading end 2 of the outer part being in the form of an axially movable lip member which in normal operation abuts the main portion of the outer part but which when moved to an axially forward position abuts the inner part 6 and defines with the main portion of the outer part an annular air intake 10, the inlet of which is directed oppositely to the approach flow direction. The nacelle shown is for a gas turbine propeller engine and the object of the invention is to prevent the ingestion of foreign bodies into the engine intake, for example to prevent ingestion of water in the case of an engine mounted on a flying boat. The leading end 2 is movable axially by a series of actuators 8. In a second embodiment flow guide vanes (11) are mounted on the piston-rods 8 of the actuators, the vanes being moved axially by further actuators to positions within the intake 10.
