Abstract
1409334 Nipple connected electrodes SIGRI ELEKTROGRAPHIT GmbH 4 April 1973 [30 May 1972] 16209/73 Heading H5H An electrode-connecting nipple pre-assembly has a threaded double-frustoconical nipple 1 with the plane of symmetry of the nipple indicated (by a chamfered portion 2 and a groove 3), an electrode having a screwthreaded recess in each end face, in one of which the nipple is engaged such that the end face 4 is spaced from the inner end of the recess, only the thread surfaces of the nipple facing out of the recess engage the threads of the recess and the plane of symmetry of the nipple is coincident with the end face of the electrode, there being deformable (carbonizable) spacer elements between the base of the recess and end face 4 of the nipple and/or between non-bearing thread flanks and a carbonizable cement at least partially filling the spaces between the nipple and walls and base of the recess. The spacer elements may be of hard pitch or paper or of adhesive material and the cement contains an epoxide resin or a furan resin or a phenolformaldehyde resin and may contain a material which thermally decomposes to give a gas, e.g. benzene sulphonic acid hydrazide.
