Abstract

1409237 Pseudo random binary sequence generators POST OFFICE 8 Sept 1972 [11 June 1971] 27424/71 Heading G4D A pseudo random sequence generator employs a plurality of cross coupled shift registers instead of a single recirculating register to increase its operating speed. As shown a generator providing a sequence of 2<SP>10</SP>-1 states employs two five stage registers 1a, 1b whose inputs 3a, 3b are supplied by EX-OR gates 2a, 2b. Gate 2a operates on the outputs of stage 5 of the first register and stage 3 of the second while gate 2b operates on the outputs of stage 5 of the second and stage 4 of the first register. The outputs of stage 5 of each register are combined in a switching circuit 4 operated at twice the clocking frequency of the shift registers with appropriate phasing. This generator provides the same length sequence as a conventional arrangement (Fig. I, not shown) using a 10-stage register but in a shorter time. More than two registers may be used.
