Abstract
1408865 Bitumen/reclaimed polymer composition PHABERL 5 Sept 1972 [7 Sept 1971] 41111/72 Heading C3N A process for the production of a mixture for use in constructional purposes containing bitumen, a mineral filler material and 1-8% by weight of the amount of bitumen present of polymer material consisting of polyethylene and/ or polypropylene and/or ethylene-propylene copolymer comprises adding the polymer material to the bitumen, which is at a sufficiently high temperature to melt the polymer material, in the form of particles of reclaimed polymer material having an average particle size exceeding 0À2 mm. to which are adhered and/or in which are included finely particulated mineral or colouring contaminants, e.g. pigment particles. The reclaimed polymer material may be in the form of flakes, chips, chaff, crushed or disintegrated particles, agglomerates or a granulate. A concentrated mixture of polymer material and bitumen containing more than 8% by weight of bitumen, of the polymer material, may be first produced and this subsequently is diluted to the necessary proportion of bitumen by the addition of molten bitumen. The polymer material may be supplied to a bath of bitumen by means of an air stream which is directed into or on to said bath.
