1408216 Surgically implantable devices DOW CORNING CORP 13 March 1973 [10 April 1972] 11947/73 Heading A5R A surgically implantable device comprises an elongated member 11 designed to connect two separate parts of the body, a hollow capsule 12 surrounding a mid-portion of the member, said mid-portion being coiled or folded, and at least one end portion of the member being able freely to pass slidably through a hole at, for example, A in a wall of the capsule when tension is applied to the ends of the member 11. The member 11 may be a tube arranged to form at least a part of a hydrocephalus shunt, or may be an electrical conductor forming a heart pacer lead.
