Wireless telegraphy and telephony.-In electric signalling systems, a high-frequency current is modulated in accordance with the signals by passing the current across the plate and filament of a thermionic modulator, the grid of which has its potential varied by the signals. As shown in the diagram, a high-frequency source 10 is connected to the grid and filament of an amplifier 1, the plate circuit of which includes a battery 5, a transformer connexion 9 to the aerial or line conductor, and the plate and filament of the modulator 2. The potential of the grid of the modulator is varied by a microphone 11 or other signal producer.
