Abstract

1407332 Regenerating bauxite sulphur recovery catalysts TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 25 Jan 1973 [2 Feb 1972] 3769/73 Heading B1E Bauxite catalyst contaminated in a Claus process is regenerated in situ by purging sulphur from the apparatus with a gas containing 0.5-1 vol% O 2 at a temperature above the melting point of sulphur, isolating a conversion zone containing the catalyst from the remainder of the apparatus and burning carbonaceous deposits from the catalyst with a mixture containing an inert gas and oxygen at 450-600‹F passed through the zone in the opposite direction to the normal gas flow through the zone in the operation of the Claus process, the content of O 2 being controlled to maintain the effluent gas at 400- 600‹F.
