Abstract
1406655 Heat fusing: automatic temperature control XEROX CORP 11 Oct 1972 [18 Oct 1971] 46895/72 Headings G2H and G3R Copying apparatus has an automatic fuser temperature control using a temperature variable resistor sensing the fuser temperature, an amplifier and a heater, which is switched off at a pre-set fuser temperature, actuation of the copying apparatus being prevented when the fuser temperature is below a predetermined minimum. In the embodiment, the fuser temperature is sensed by thermistor 45. For temperatures below the predetermined minimum, switching amplifier 55 is triggered on to energize relay 60', 60 and thus turn on heating lamp 44 in the fuser. At the minimum temperature and above, the output across thermistor 45 turns operational amplifier 50 on, amplifier 55 remaining on, and an amplifier 56 being triggered on to close relay contact 63, allowing the copying apparatus 10 to be operated upon closure of switch 69. At the required temperature, set by biasing resistors 58, 59, amplifier 55 turns off to terminate the heating. The required temperature is maintained by switching of amplifier 55. If the fuser temperature falls below the minimum value, amplifier 56 turns off to stop the apparatus 10. Similarly if the temperature rises above a pre-set maximum, and a time delay set by circuit 72 has elapsed from the starting of the apparatus, amplifier 57 is triggered on to open relay contact 67, stopping the apparatus 10 and sounding an alarm. Contact 67 may be manually reset. Amplifier 57 may also stop the machine if the thermistor fails, in which case, transistor 70 is turned off, to turn off amplifier 50.
