Abstract

1406143 Coating with metals by fusion alloys KARL SCHMIDT GmbH 3 Jan 1973 [3 Jan 1972] 428/73 Headings C7A and C7F An Al or Al alloy member, e.g. a piston, is strengthened by applying an alloy as a band, wire or shrunk-on-ring and then fusing by a beam of charged particles. The component may be subsequently heat-treated, and may be chemically or mechanically treated to expose e.g. silicon in the alloy. The alloy may be Al base, 14 to 50% Si, 1 to 15% Cu, up to 4% Mg and/or up to 10%Zn.
