1405839 Tumbling HYGRADE FINISHES Ltd 19 April 1974 [8 May 1973] 21892/73 Heading B3D Apparatus for deburring and polishing comprises a drive support 17 rotatable about a drive axis 18 by drive means, a plurality of rakes 19 mounted on the support generally parallel to the drive axis, a respective drum holder 21 for mounting a drum 24 containing articles to be deburred or polished and a deburring or polishing agent rotatably mounted on each axle, and each drum holder having wedging surfaces to rigidly mount the drum to the holder. The support 17 is in the form of a spider or plate which is secured to a shaft 18 belt driven from. a motor in the base of a cabinet housing the apparatus and having a door at its front through which the drums can be passed and mounted in the holders. Four axles 19 are mounted on the plate 17 and each axle rotatably supports a holder 21. Each holder 21 has a circular, hexagonal, octagonal or, as shown, square section wall 24 between circular front and rear plates 22, 23. The rear plates 23 of the holders are grooved at 26, 27, 28 to receive bolts 31, 32, 33 which also extend around a fixed pulley 29 so that as the support rotates in one direction, the holders rotate in the opposite direction. A further belt 34 is received in grooves 40 in the front plates 22 of the holders. The holders and drums may be of polyurethane, polypropylene or aluminium, the drums, when of the latter material, being lined with rubber. The drums 14 are generally square and each has a circular aperture for loading and unloading the drum with the articles and treating agent. The aperture can be closed by a lid 56 held in position by a screw 59 engaged in a bar 57 located at its ends in recesses formed by H-shaped lugs 42, 43 formed on the end of the drum. The drums are received in the square recesses of the holders which taper on the inside to provide the wedging surfaces to grip the drums. When inserted in the holders, the lugs 42, 43 are in general alignment with screw threaded bores 30 in the end plates 22, the bores receiving bolts 61, 62 having nuts 64, 56 for pressing bars 63 against tapered surfaces 51, 52 of the lugs 42, 43 to urge the drums firmly into engagement with the taper on the inside of the holders.
