Abstract
1405185 Heart pacemakers D BURNEL B DODINOT G FONTENNIER M MOUROT and R FRESCHARD 22 Dec 1972 59493/72 Heading A5R Electrically-operated apparatus for implantation in a human or animal body is powered by a cathode 7 made of platinum or platinum alloy and an anode 6 of magnesium or magnesium alloy, the cathode and anode being implantable in the body whereby body fluids provide the electrolyte. The apparatus comprises a heart pacemaker 1 immediately adjacent which is the anode 6 which is in the form of a disc, the anode and pacemaker being implanted in tissue fluids of the body. The cathode 7 is located within the right auricle of the heart and comprises a tube encircling and insulated from the lead 2 connecting the pacemaker and stimulating electrode 3.
