Abstract

1404661 Arc furnace electrode clamps BRITISH STEEL CORP 5 July 1973 [7 July 1972] 32015/72 Heading H5H A furnace electrode clamp comprises a metal body on which is mounted at least one graphite pad against which the electrode is clamped, The graphite pads 16 are retained in the clamp body 1 by key slots, such as dovetail suction slots, and the electrode 10 is forced against the pads by a stainless steel band 9 having two inwardly protruding surfaces 11 which firmly contact the electrode. The steel band is moved to clamp the electrode by a stirrup member 6 movably hydraulically or pneumatically. The graphite pads slide longitudinally in their key slots and are retained at their lower ends by a seating of insulating material and at their upper ends by stainless steel plates. The clamp body is of copper and has water cooling conduit 12 running through it alongside the pads.
